Beach Missions

Reaching crowds at racecourses, fairgrounds, city centres and other places where people congregate, The Open-Air Mission contact hundreds of thousands of people each year and have the joy of seeing people put their trust in the Saviour. We are also involved in Schools Work, Bible Exhibitions, Holiday Clubs, from time to time and Prison Outreach and, of course, Beach Missions.

We invite applications from those who know the Lord Jesus as their personal Saviour, who are seeking to live their lives for Him and who are prepared to give themselves whole-heartedly to serving the Lord on the teams. Applicants must be aged 15 or over. We also need people who are willing to cook for teams of up to 20. People with musical ability are also needed. Piano accordions or guitars are very useful to help lead the singing.

Obviously, those who come will work under the supervision of the team leader and they must be prepared to accept his authority. They will be expected to maintain their own devotional life and to take part in the times of team Bible study and prayer. Also, they will be required to attend all the open-air events and take part according to their abilities. There is ample scope for those with little or much experience and the team leader will not expect more than an individual can give. Although discipline and hard work are necessary, there are opportunities to relax and have fun. These weeks of service are usually times of spiritual benefit and growth, when good friendships are established.

Certain standards of behaviour are expected from team members. We have a rule that members will not smoke or partake of alcoholic drinks whilst on the teams. We also insist that great care is exercised in relationships between the sexes. Team members must see themselves as ambassadors for Christ and refrain from anything which might dishonour His Name. We cannot accept applications from those who feel that they must force others to accept their views. Mutual tolerance and respect are obviously necessary in team work. The Team Leader's authority must be respected at all times.
