QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
‘How can God accept me?’ is a great opening to any conversation. A young Muslim student from Dubai put this very question to me recently as we talked together. He had stopped to listen for some time and had accepted a John’s gospel as I concluded. I went over to speak to him afterwards and as I approached him, I was rehearsing in my mind answers to the usual questions thrown at us by Muslims. Yet, how encouraging to be greeted with a sincere desire to know acceptance by God.
He asked very humbly, ‘What makes Christianity so different to Islam?’ This was the first of many questions. His design was not to trick me, or to trip me, but he genuinely wanted to know. As we discussed things together he warmed to the idea, which is very foreign to a Muslim, that we can know God personally, and he gladly accepted a booklet.
‘I have many questions’ said one lady at the close of the preaching. Julie was quite surprised when I said I welcomed her questions. Although she had had a Christian upbringing, she had been confused over recent years by a group of spiritualists. After explaining the gospel, Julie said she now realised her need for a Saviour and accepted literature promising to read it.
In Rhyl, Lizzy stopped to look at the board after I had preached. She came straight to the point with something that was troubling her, ‘I am religious, but why am I afraid of dying?’ Lizzy, a Roman Catholic, was relying on religion but knew she had no assurance of Heaven. She told me she had recently come through breast cancer and now knew how short life can be. A ‘Sure of Heaven?’ CD was readily accepted by her. Please pray that Lizzy will come to be sure!
