QUARKS AND QUAVERS
‘It’s life Jim, but not as we know it’, is a line from the famous series, ‘Star Trek’. I recalled this phrase when meeting an expert on Quarks. If you are not quite up to warp factor speed on this subject, a quark is an elementary subatomic particle. I also had the pleasure of talking recently with an expert on Quavers. They can’t be seen, but can be heard when you listen to music.
Daniel was passing by the board in Woking town centre. He told me, ‘I cannot believe in this message because I know so much’. Daniel was a Physicist. I informed him despite his undoubted gifted ability, the words of the Lord Jesus were very relevant to him, “…whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it” (Mark 10:15). Daniel then began to talk about the Genesis account of creation and we also covered various concepts in Quantum Mechanics relating to matter. I had recently read about dark energy so was able to
comment on it. Daniel surprised me and asked, ‘Do you realize all molecules have an inbuilt memory. This could be how God knows all things?’ I agreed that God does indeed know all things and that Daniel’s studies just confirmed how great God is. Interestingly, Daniel talked about the leading atheist of today, Richard Dawkins, and dismissed him as a man of limited scientific ability. As we chatted Daniel asked, ‘Is there an answer?’ What a pleasure to share with him the message of the gospel. He took a creation booklet and a church address.
On a not too busy day in a small Wiltshire town, Mick, who is a violin player, accepted a tract. Looking at his face I recognized him from a past open-air meeting many months before in a different town centre. Staring at me he said, ‘Do you remember what you said to me then, you told me that God doesn’t believe in atheists’. Mick then said that he had since read the Bible, but was still an atheist. To which I quoted “...what may be known of God is manifest in them…” (Romans 1:19). It was really good to speak with him again and he left with literature and promised to come back to discuss further.
