At the age of fifteen I trusted the Lord at a summer camp on the Isle of Anglesey. I was brought up to go to church and had been confirmed, yet at these camps I clearly heard the gospel and saw Christ living in the folk who ran them. It was in a field overlooking Benllech (in the open air!) that I trusted Christ as my own Saviour and Lord. A Crusader class, a good evangelical Anglican church and then a Brethren assembly in Bristol all gave me a grounding in God's precious Word. As a student in London training to teach RE and Biology I began to join in the outreach of the Kilburn Young Life group each Sunday at Speakers’ Corner. I have taught RE for thirty one years now and have always considered myself a missionary paid by the State! Don't believe people who say you cannot teach God's Word in schools these days. I feel now that God has laid the word 'eternity' rather than 'education' on my heart. C. H. Spurgeon once commented 'even if I were utterly selfish, I would choose if I might, under God, to be a soul winner'. My wife Sue and I have been involved with United Beach Missions over the years and we thank God for all we have learnt and the blessings received as a family from such fellowship. I have also been privileged to work with Edwin Baker at Speakers’ Corner. Like with beach mission, I often returned home thinking I wish I could do this all year round. God is so gracious! Sue and I feel humbled and privileged to be part of such a godly bunch of people. The Psalmist declared "great was the company of those who proclaimed it" (Psalm 68:11). As members of the OAM family we humbly acknowledge that the Lord who has called us is faithful.
