What is your Greatest Need?
You may answer this question in different ways and the answer will show what is uppermost In your mind at a particular time. For example, your answer may include one of the following:
The list could include many other things and there is no doubt that life would be so much easier if only our particular needs could be met. But, even if we did have all that we thought we needed, we may be taking a very short-sighted view of life.
What about God? Where does He fit in? What does He think about us? Will we have to meet Him one day? Will we have to give an account to Him? Will we qualify for Heaven?
TAKE TIME TO CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING FACTS:
1. GOD MADE US FOR HIMSELF
‘Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man’. Ecclesiastes 12:13
- We are hear to please the One who made us, not just to please ourselves.
2. WE ARE ALL GUILTY BEFORE GOD
‘There is no-one who seeks after God... There is no-one who does good, no, not one... There is no fear of God in their eyes’. Romans 3:11-12,18
- Deep down we all know that we have not measured up to the standard of perfection that God requires. Not only that, we have turned our backs on our Creator.
3. THERE IS A JUDGEMENT DAY TO FACE
‘God has appointed a day on which He will judge the world... By the man whom He has ordained (Jesus Christ). He has given assurance of this to all, by raising Him from the dead’. Acts 17:31
- The Judgement Day is as certain as the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the evidence for that is overwhelming!
4. WE NEED TO BE FORGIVEN
‘If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with you’. Psalm 130:3-4
- Forgiveness is your greatest need! Without that forgiveness we are in terrible danger! God is holy and just. He hates sin and it must be punished.
5. JESUS PAID FOR OUR FORGIVENESS
‘For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God’. 1 Peter 3:18
- When Jesus died on the cross He willingly suffered the punishment that sinners deserve. It is because Jesus was the sinless Son of God, that He was qualified to die as our substitute.
6. HOW CAN WE BE FORGIVEN?
‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness’. 1 John 1:9
- To be forgiven we must admit that we are sinners, believe that Jesus died in our place, and call upon Him to have mercy on us and forgive all our sins.
7. WHAT ABOUT ALL YOUR OTHER NEEDS?
‘My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus’. Philippians 4:19
- When we have truly turned from our sin, and trusted in the Lord Jesus as our personal Saviour, we are in the care and keeping of Almighty God. What a blessing!
YOUR GREATEST NEED IS GOD’S FORGIVENESS !
