Where will you spend Eternity?

We all face it after death and this should certainly raise many questions in our minds.  For example:

• Are we accountable to God; or can we live as we like with no thought of the consequences?
• Is there really a Judgement Day to come?  How can we be sure?
• Are heaven and hell real places?  If so, what are they like?
• How can we know where we will spend eternity?

If we ask people around us for their thoughts about this, we shall get a wide assortment of answers.  Everybody has an opinion and some like to express theirs very forcibly!  The problem is that one person’s opinion is as valid as the next, and so we shall not actually receive much help from other people.

No!  We need an authoritative answer and for that we must turn to the Bible.  It has stood the test of time as God’s message to mankind.  Millions of Christians across the world trust it absolutely. If we look in the Bible for answers to our questions, we will find it gives us direct answers.  Think carefully about what it says.  Your response to its message will have ETERNAL consequences!

ARE WE REALLY ACCOUNTABLE TO GOD?

‘It is appointed for man to die once, but after this the judgement’.  (Hebrews 9:27)

This is representative of many verses in the Bible that speak of a Judgement Day to come.

CAN WE BE SURE THAT A JUDGEMENT DAY WILL COME?

‘God has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained.  He has given assurance of this to all, by raising Him from the dead’.  (Acts 17:31)

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the guarantee of the coming Judgement Day.

IS THERE A PLACE CALLED HEAVEN?

Yes, it is a real and wonderful place.  ‘...there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying; and there shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away’.  (Revelation 21:4)

Heaven is far more amazing than our minds can possible take in!

IS THERE REALLY A PLACE CALLED HELL?

Jesus spoke of hell on many occasions.  He described it as a place of unending weeping and regret.  It will be the terrible destiny of those who reject Jesus as Saviour.  ‘And these will go away into everlasting punishment’.  (Matthew 25:46)

Hell is obviously more awful than we can begin to imagine!  Because God is totally JUST we all deserve eternal punishment, for we have broken His laws and failed Him in so many ways.  But in His LOVE God has provided a way for us to be forgiven, a way to escape hell and to be sure of heaven for eternity.

WHAT HAS GOD DONE?

He sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to bear the penalty our sins deserve by dying for us on the Cross of Calvary.

‘God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we  were still sinners, Christ died for us’.  (Romans 5:8)

What must we do? ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved’.  (Acts 16:31)
