My Testimony
On Tuesday afternoon, 11 February 2003 I slowly opened my eyes, my vision was hazy, my back and leg were in agony and I was surrounded by paramedics. In my disjointed memory I recalled being at a great height, yet now I was lying on the cold, hard concrete of the warehouse yard where I worked, convinced that I was about to die! Death had often filled me with fear; however, now that it was a strong possibility I was filled with a sense of peace. I prayed to God with tears running down my face knowing if He should take me now I would spend eternity with Him.
I became a Christian when I was 12. Having been raised in a Christian family I knew the gospel well, yet neither my parents’ faith nor my bible knowledge could offer me salvation. In the solitude of my bedroom on a Sunday evening I asked God to forgive me for my sins through His Son Jesus Christ. God showed me grace beyond measure, yet I rewarded His mercy with contempt as I drifted aimlessly through my teens saying and doing things that a Christian should not. I acted as a chameleon; to my friends and family at church I was a model Christian, yet with my friends at school I was completely different. Of course, there were times of repentance, but I would quickly return to the same old sins.
Praise God that “whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth” (Hebrews 12:6). God would not allow me to continue in this unfruitful state for long. And so, at the age of 18, what began as a normal working day ended with a broken back, a broken leg, 2 ½ amputated toes and a heart finally prepared to let go of the world, and cling to Christ.
Having been brought back to God through my accident I felt led to join the Open-Air Mission as a Trainee Evangelist for a year. Having completed this year I was accepted to work full-time with the Mission as the evangelist to London where I currently live and work.
