HIGH SOCIETY
Then the Lord spoke to Ananias concerning Saul of Tarsus in Acts 9:15 He said, “…he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel.” This prophecy was fulfilled of course as Paul travelled throughout the Empire sharing the gospel with both Jew and Gentile alike. However, the prophecy was only completely fulfilled when Paul stood before King Agrippa, and eventually Emperor Nero. God allowed Paul to stand before the most powerful men of his time and witness for Christ. But what about us, will simple street preachers ever stand in front of Prime Ministers, Presidents and Kings?
In Kingston some months back I met a young lady named Ali; she was a devout Roman Catholic and was engaged to an equally devout young man whose family held quite a high position in the church. Ali and her fiancée were preparing to have a private audience with the Pope this year in order to discuss their marriage! She believed in salvation through good works but was very interested in the true gospel that salvation is through faith alone. Ali gladly received a ‘Sure of Heaven’ CD and assured me that she would listen to it.
At a Bible Exhibition last year in Richmond one particular child seemed to have an incredibly good knowledge of the Bible. Afterwards one of the team spoke with him; he was the son of a vicar, who the next day was to be ordained an Anglican Bishop, and for that reason the whole family were dining with Rowan Williams at Lambeth Palace that evening.
We may never have an opportunity to mix with those in high society, yet the Lord does bring into our paths at times those who do move in those circles. Who can tell what opportunities the Lord could give to Ali if she were to become a Christian – dare we dream that the Pope could receive a ‘Sure of Heaven’ CD! And who knows what answer that young boy gave to the Archbishop of Canterbury that evening as he politely asked what he had done at school that day.
