CLOCKING WATCHING?

Have you ever been ‘clock watching’ at work? How nice it would be to finish work NOW! Sometimes we do that in our Christian lives too. How lovely if the Lord returned now to enable me to luxuriate in the extravagant opulence of heaven. STOP! Some workers may leave without finishing their daily chore. What if we stopped our work for the Lord before it was complete? Peter writes “our Lord’s patience means salvation” (2 Peter 3:15). The Lord lingers so that more souls will be saved. He waited for me, why should I be impatient? So while it is day, we hold out the word of truth.

About once a month Keith Bullock joins me in Glasgow. Early one particular morning the snow was falling and I thought about telling Keith not to come the long distance from Carlisle. However, the forecast was good, so we stuck to the original plan. A group of 3 young lads listened to Keith preaching and one of them shouted back in mocking tones. When Keith finished his message I went over to chat with the boys. I was afraid it might be a waste of time as the young heckler was trying to be funny, but we did have a profitable conversation. The same day, a middle-aged man named Stephen listened as I preached. On speaking with him afterwards, I found him to be sincere and most receptive to the gospel. He shook my hand warmly before leaving with the John’s gospel I had given him. I’m glad I did not cancel the open-air earlier that morning.

In Kilmarnock a man called Tim came along and stopped to listen. He was very intense, coming right up to me while I was preaching and said, ‘Do you realise you need to be baptised n order to be saved?’ I thought he may have been from the Church of Christ, but on talking to him later, I discovered he was actually a Mormon. A long chat followed and Tim clearly was uncomfortable about defending his position in the Mormon
Church, but did not want to change his views immediately. He has only been a Mormon for a couple of years
and so was not fully schooled in their way of thinking. Pray that the ‘Why Believe the Bible?’ and ‘Which Way
to God?’ booklets which we gave Tim will be a blessing to him.
