What is a Beach Mission?
Beach Missions are ideal opportunities to reach out to children and families with the gospel during the busy summer holiday season. Beach Missions are an ideal time for believers to try new areas of service, make friends, and grow in confidence in sharing the gospel with others.
What is an OAM Beach Mission like?
If you come on an OAM Beach Mission, you will stay in a local church building for a week. Each day begins with a time of worship as the team studies the Word of God and prays together. Every morning and afternoon, you will be engaging with children and families on the beach through a range of activities. The team also reaches all ages through open-air work and one-to-one evangelism.
‘There aren’t many better things you can be doing with your time … Come along, you’ll be surprised how much God can use you.’
Josh
Who can join a Beach Mission?
Beach Mission applicants must be:
- Christians who are trusting the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour;
- in good standing with a local church;
- prepared to serve whole-heartedly on the team;
- aged 15 or over.
As well as regular team members, we also welcome those who are able to cook for teams of up to 20 and those who have musical gifting to help lead singing.
‘It is hard work, but it’s also very encouraging. And it’s just a great opportunity to meet people and other Christians, and to share God’s Word.’
Bethany
Will I be forced to do anything?
All team members will be expected to help with different aspects of the work. However, you won’t be forced to do anything you are uncomfortable with, and training will be provided for new activities.
How much does it cost?
There is no weekly charge for our beach missions. However we do make a £10.00 booking fee to help to cover administration costs.
Where and when do they take place?
Tenby
Week 1 (26 July – 2 August 2025)
Week 2 (2 – 9 August 2025)
Weymouth
Week 1 (9 – 16 August 2025)
When should I book?
When you book will depend on whether you have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) certificate.
- If you already have an up-to-date DBS check with OAM, you need to book by 10 July. You will need to provide us with a copy of the DBS certificate in order to check its status on the DBS Update Service. Please complete your application form as soon as possible.
- If you need a new DBS certificate, book by 4 July. Once you have completed the beach mission application form and we have checked the reference, you will be given a DBS form to fill in. Details of all you need to do will be enclosed. Once you have received notification that your DBS has been successfully carried out, you must contact us immediately so we can accept you onto the team. Please do not wait until the deadline to apply, as the DBS process can be slow during the summer months. If your DBS check does not come through within a few days of the beach mission starting, it won’t be possible to have you on the team.
