Where Will You Spend Eternity?
Do you ever think about eternity? We all face eternity after death. This fact should raise many questions in our minds:
- Can we be sure of a judgment day?
- Are we accountable to God for our actions?
- Are heaven and hell real?
- Where will we spend eternity?
If asked, the people around us would have lots of answers. Everybody has an opinion, each as valid as the next, so asking them isn't helpful. We need an authoritative answer, and for that we must turn to the Bible. The Bible gives us direct answers. Think carefully about what it says. Your response to its message will have eternal consequences.
Are we really accountable to God?
"It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). There are many passages like this in the Bible that speak of God's judgment.
Can we be sure of a judgment day?
"[God] has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness... He has given assurance of this to all by raising [Jesus] from the dead" (Acts 17:31). Jesus Christ's resurrection is the guarantee of the coming judgment.
Is there a place called Heaven?
Heaven is a real and wonderful place. In heaven, the Bible tells us, "there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away" (Revelation 21:4).
Is there really a place called Hell?
Because God is totally just we all deserve eternal punishment, for we have broken His laws and failed Him in so many ways. Jesus spoke of hell on many occasions. He described it as a place of unending weeping and regret, the terrible destiny of those who reject Him and break His laws. "And these will go away into everlasting punishment" (Matthew 25:46).
Hell is more awful than we can begin to imagine. But in His love, God has provided a way for us to be forgiven, a way to escape hell and to be sure of heaven for eternity.
What has God done?
He sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to bear the punishment we deserve by dying for us on the cross at Calvary.
"God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).
What must we do?
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31). Be sure where you will spend eternity!
