Have you looked at the evidence?
Evidence for God
Evidence for God is all around us. Everything we see with the naked eye or through a telescope or a microscope is evidence of a great Creator, an intelligent Designer. The Bible says, ‘For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse…’ (Romans 1:20).
Evidence for Jesus
The life of Jesus is well documented. There are four detailed, eyewitness accounts in the Bible. These are the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
‘Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name’ (John 20:30-31).
There is also independent historical evidence, such as writings by the Roman historian Tacitus (55-120 AD) who recorded Jesus’ crucifixion by Pontius Pilate.
Evidence for the Bible
Many of the details in the Bible are backed up by archaeology and other historical writings, proving its reliability. In addition to this external evidence, there is also the evidence found within the Bible itself in fulfilled prophecy, proving that the writers were inspired by God. Over 300 promises in the Old Testament are fulfilled in the life of Jesus. About 700 years before Jesus’ birth, the prophet Isaiah predicted that He would be born of a virgin: ‘Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel’ (Isaiah 7:14).
Evidence for the resurrection
Jesus’ resurrection is central to Christianity. He died on a cross to pay for our sins, and three days later He rose from the dead. A key piece of evidence is the eyewitness testimony. We have reliable accounts from those who saw Jesus dead and then saw Him alive again. ‘He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once…’ (1 Corinthians 15:5-6).
Where does the evidence lead?
All the evidence leads to the fact there is a God. We have sinned against Him and deserve His judgement, but in love God has provided a Saviour.
‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life’ (John 3:16).
The Bible tells us Jesus died on a cross to pay for our sins by taking our punishment. Three days later He rose from the dead – proving who He is and that God accepted His payment on our behalf.
He offers forgiveness of sin and eternal life to all who repent and believe in Him.
The evidence is overwhelming! Have you considered it? Will you believe it and find forgiveness today?
