Lincoln Christmas Outreach

OAM has been running a Christmas outreach in Lincoln for many years, taking advantage of the large numbers of people drawn into the city during the Christmas season. While the Christmas Market itself ended in 2022, Lincoln remains busy throughout December, providing a valuable opportunity for a team-based gospel witness.

Though many people in Britain no longer give much thought to Christ at Christmas, this time of year still provides a natural opportunity to point people to the One who came into the world to save sinners. Working alongside local evangelical churches, we seek to proclaim Christ in the city centre and to encourage believers to take part in the work of evangelism.

When does it take place?

2–5 December

The outreach runs from Thursday to Saturday, with team members arriving on Wednesday evening and departing on Saturday evening.

What does the outreach involve?

We will be active in the centre of Lincoln during the daytime across the three days, with a variety of opportunities to take part in gospel outreach. In the evenings, we will either take part in the midweek meetings of local churches or engage in further street outreach.

There are opportunities for everyone to be involved, whatever your level of experience. Team members may take part in a range of activities, including:

  • A book table with Christmas-themed literature

  • Giving out leaflets

  • Listening to and supporting open-air preaching

  • Engaging in personal conversations

  • Open-air preaching

Those new to evangelism are welcome to observe, learn, and take part at a level they are comfortable with. This is the coldest team event we run, so please come well prepared with warm clothing and layers.

Training and encouragement

Team events are a valuable opportunity to grow in confidence and clarity in sharing the gospel. Each day includes some basic training, alongside plenty of opportunity to learn informally from one another.

Over meals and during outreach, team members are encouraged to ask questions, observe others at work, and benefit from serving alongside believers with a range of experience in evangelism.

Accommodation and base

Our daytime base will be TCM Baptist Church, close to the city centre and just a short walk from the train station.

Team accommodation will be arranged with the help of local churches and believers:

  • Men will sleep at a local church (sleeping bag and camp bed required)

  • Women will be hosted by church members

You are also welcome to arrange your own accommodation at your own expense if you prefer.

Food and practical arrangements

All meals during the outreach will be provided, kindly supported by local friends of the work. There is no charge for food, though gifts towards costs are welcome for those who wish to give.

Why join this outreach?

The Lincoln Christmas Outreach offers a focused and supportive setting in which to take part in public gospel witness at a key time of year. It is an opportunity to grow through training and experience, to serve alongside other believers, and to encourage — and be encouraged by — local churches.

Whether you are new to evangelism or have years of experience, this outreach provides a practical way to labour together for the gospel at Christmas.
