Are you considering preaching in the open air but don’t know where to begin?
One way to ‘get off the ground’ is to use an outline of an open-air message that has been developed before. These provide a skeleton that you can flesh out with your own words and illustrations. You can find many examples of open-air message outlines on the OAM website. However, not all of them are ideal for someone preaching for the first time.
In this article, I’m going to share three simple open-air messages that are ideal for those starting out in open-air preaching. They have each been used many times to communicate the gospel to a lost world.
1. The Bible Has the Answers
This is a simple talk which shows four answers the Bible gives to four of life’s biggest questions. Each of the four questions lends itself to getting to the gospel quickly, and shows clearly how the Scriptures are sufficient to answer the big questions of life.
2. Four Big Problems
This is an older message that has been used by many. It shows the four biggest problems humanity faces, and how the Lord has dealt with those problems through the work of Christ on the cross.
You can choose how you order the talk. For example, you could speak about each of the four problems followed by each of the four answers, or take one problem and one answer at a time. This talk helps to keep your message focused on the cross of Christ.
3. Six Deadly Lies
This talk walks through six commonly believed lies. They are deadly because they keep people from the saving truths of the gospel. As you work through each one, you can explain why it is wrong and what the opposing truth is. In conclusion, there is a short summary of the gospel at the bottom, which encapsulates the truth we need to know in order to be saved.
Stating the truth negatively can sometimes be helpful in stirring up people to listen and engage with the message.
Whether you download or print these visuals yourself, or use them as inspiration for your own message, they should be a help in getting started on your journey into open-air preaching. May the Lord give you grace to proclaim His word with power in the open air!
